The Unfortunate Truths of Children and Guns

This past year, 265 children under the age of 18 picked up a firearm and shot someone by accident. Out of the 265, 83 were fatal.

The victims can be the children’s parents, siblings, or friends; but in many cases, the child accidentally has taken their own life. The most shocking and disturbing statistic of these accidental shootings is that in 30 situations where someone was killed, the shooter was 5 years old or younger.

It’s unclear if these statistics are going up or down, because this is the first time these numbers have been tallied and made available to the public. Some believe that the numbers could actually be a lot higher. Currently there are 30 additional shooting cases that are still working to be verified.

These accidents are tragic. Tragic might even be an understatement. No parent should have to deal with the loss of a toddler because of accidents like these. To make matters worse, most often these incidents lead to the parents being held liable. Although it can be easy to think a firearm is out of reach from a child, the only true way to prevent more of these incidents from occurring is by properly locking these firearms away in a safe.

No matter what type of gun you own, there is a safe out there that can store and secure your weapons and ammunition. For small handguns, pistols, and glocks, SAFEGO is perfect for your home, car, or office (if permitted). SAFEGO allows you to fit your weapon in a safe secure box, where only you will know the combination and have the keys to open the safe.
